Foundation Update-November/December 2011

It’s a time of giving

Terri Marshall
Executive Director, Housing Opportunity Foundation

The holidays, regardless of what you believe or celebrate, are a time for giving thanks and giving back.

The Housing Opportunity Foundation gives thanks for all of you – our supporters – who have helped us give back to the community in so many ways this year. You’ve participated in our educational workshops and events, volunteered for Realtors® Care Day, nominated someone for the Community Grants Program or the Humanitarian Award, and so much more! We are grateful for your support, and so are the many people, families and organizations you have helped this year.

So as we begin this holiday season, here are some ways that you can continue to give back to the foundation and to the community.

Good wine, good friends, good cause

The foundation is having a wine tasting raffle for a chance to win a private wine tasting party, including hors d’oeuvres, for 10 friends at your home. The cost is $10 for one raffle ticket or $25 for three tickets. You can purchase tickets online or by contacting The winner will be announced Dec. 19.

Holiday shopping made easy

Join us for the foundation’s annual Holiday Raffle and Auction in Statesville on Dec. 7 and in Charlotte on Dec. 9. The association/CMLS Holiday Awards Luncheons & Annual Meetings are among the foundation’s largest fundraisers, and they offer great opportunities to pick up a special item for someone on your holiday list or a gift for you. Items have included a site-seeing tour of Lake Norman in a private airplane, vacation and golf packages, artwork, pottery, Panthers tickets, restaurant gift certificates, jewelry and much more! The foundation needs a variety of items again this year, so donate an item today!

Remember someone special

The foundation welcomes honorarium and memoriam contributions to acknowledge a special person in your life. These gifts are a fitting way to show your love and respect to those important to you. All donations are tax-deductible and are acknowledged with a special card featuring a dream house drawn by a local child. This is a great way to remember someone special, so donate online or email

We hope that you will consider these options as you make your end-of-year giving decisions. And may the same spirit of joy, compassion and thankfulness that is found within the Housing Opportunity Foundation be alive in your heart today and always.
